HOUSTON—Moderator Sandy Benak playfully kicked off the discussion at RealShare Houston on Tuesday, asking if anyone knew the current price of oil.
A handful of people in the audience rallied back the answer, and with that, the event's fourth and final panel discussion—“State of the Market Roundtable”—had commenced.
“No, Houston isn't about to look at a recession,” said Patrick Jankowski, senior vice president, research at Greater Houston Partnership. “We need to correct [this] misperception.”
Panelists agreed whole-heartedly.
“We're between fear and greed,” said Kevin Roberts, president, southwest at Transwestern. “Right where we want to be.”
Kerry French, senior vice president and managing director at NorthMarq Capital, offered a similar take.
“Short-term, [there will be] consternation as far as capital markets,” he said. “Long-term, no problem.”
“It's not all gloom and doom,” said Clark Thompson, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Colvill Office Properties.
Veteran real estate execs Louis Cushman, vice chairman, brokerage services at Cushman & Wakefield and Laurie Baker, senior vice president of fund and asset management at Camden Property Trust, also contributed key insights during the lively session.
