SAN DIEGO—When Moss Adams employees walk into their new 15,455-square-foot office, they're seeing all red – in the best way possible. The tax, accounting and consulting firm has taken over the top floor of the La Jolla Commons Office Tower I | Hines located at 4747 Executive Drive in San Diego. A trio of San Diego companies – general contractor Pacific Building Group, construction management services by CBRE and interior design firm ID Studios, Inc. – created the striking red, gray and silver space.

The teams worked to transform the empty space into something aesthetically interesting, tech and energy savvy and encouraging of workplace collaboration. While the end result is a leading-edge suite, the top to bottom re-do of office space wasn't without challenges.

“Working within an occupied building required schedule coordination and communication among all three firms,” says Brandon Stevens, project manager at Pacific Building Group. “We also worked closely with Hines, the building owner, to ensure that all tenants were respected throughout the project.”

The team was challenged with creating a space that was anything but traditional for Moss Adams LLP. The firm requested an inspiring, motivational, naturally lit environment for their future office with a focus on collaboration and technology.

The new location includes breathtaking views and site lines that permeate the open and enclosed workspaces to be utilized by all team members including the partners. Prime window-line view locations are offered to the entire team. 120-degree workstations in four team-building “communities” are designed to increase energy and creativity while promoting collaborative and creative functions.

Enclosed work spaces are located on the interior core with glass-fronts reconfirming connection, openness and an ability to select the work space that best fits the need of the individual or team for the given project.

“The overall feel of the space is sophisticated and modern with clean lines, bright materials and warm wood tones throughout. The end result is a healthy, light-infused, collaborative and technology-forward space displaying the cutting edge leadership, expertise and professionalism specific to the Moss Adams culture,” says Deborah Elliott, principal at ID Studios.

CBRE provided construction management services from early on, while Pacific Building Group provided preconstruction services with a critical focus on early procurement for equipment and materials.

“This was a challenging yet highly successful project and a true testament to the importance of quality relationships,” adds Allison Beall, director of business development at Pacific Building Group.  All three firms are represented at the management level as members of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW).

“We believe that a strong local network leads to success for individual projects and collectively for our firms,” says Beall.

Carisa Wisniewski, Moss Adams partner-in-charge adds, “Our goal was to create a space where our Moss Adams team can grow and develop. To do this it was important to us to select a team of real estate professionals that shared our vision, values and service beliefs. We have felt confident through the entire process that our real estate team including Pacific Building Group, ID Studios and CBRE were aligned with our goals and embraced the nuances of our vision. They have been a pleasure to work with from kick-off to our big reveal.”

Pacific Building Group team members that worked on this project include project manager Stevens, estimator Tyler Mitchell, and superintendent Brian Linnell.
