HONORS
HOBOKEN, NJ—The New Jersey chapter of the American Institute of Architects has presented Hoboken–based architectural firm Minervini Vandermark Architecture with a merit award in the “built residential” category for its work on the Tribeca Lofts, 930 Jefferson Street, Hoboken, NJ. At the southwest corner of 10th and Jefferson Streets, Tribeca Lofts has three prominent facades and a view of the Manhattan skyline. The building maximizes floor-to-ceiling glazing and outdoor balcony space for views of the skyline and a neighboring high school football field. The design team incorporated an exterior material palette that includes brick, exposed concrete, frameless curtain-wall glazing, aluminum-clad timber windows, clear anodized aluminum cladding and terracotta panels and baguettes used for screening and guardrails. “We're very grateful of the recognition we're receiving for the design of Tribeca West,” says Frank Minervini, AIA, principal of Minervini Vandermark. “We took a relatively small building and produced a design that mirrors the full-fledged aesthetic and functionality of a Manhattan condo.” The building is on track to receive LEED Gold certification for its implementation of sustainable technologies including storm-water detention and grey-water reuse, solar paneling, low-flush plumbing fixtures, a high-efficiency elevator and Energy Star-rated appliances. “In addition to the ingenuity showcased in this building's design, it is also environmentally friendly,” says Kimberly Bunn, AIA, president of AIA-NJ. “Sustainable design is a hallmark of architecture, and we appreciate seeing works at the cutting edge that are also responsible to the planet.”
