DALLAS--Edgemere, a senior-living community in north-central Dallas, is slated to undergo a $36-million expansion and renovation project this August.

A new 6,000-square-foot performing arts center will be built and the community's two dining venues will be upgraded, while the facility will also add eight assisted-living apartment homes, 12 memory-support suites and 15 skilled-nursing private suites.

“When Edgemere opened in 2001, it really set the bar high for senior living in Dallas,” Charles B. Brewer, president and CEO of Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), said in a release. “Over time, the needs and wants of seniors change. When baby boomers today imagine their retirement, it's much different than what their parents and/or grandparents wanted. We understand that, and we want to appeal to both our current residents and future generations of seniors.”

The commons areas will also be updated with indoor/outdoor courtyards and renovated dining areas. And an underground parking garage will be added for additional parking for family members and guests.

Edgemere currently has 304 independent-living apartments, 60 assisted-living apartments, 31 memory-care suites and 72 private-skilled nursing suites.

Andres Construction will be the general contractor for the project. AG Architecture will be the design firm for the project. Other project partners include interior design firm Looney & Associates, and design consultants will be Faulkner Design Group and Kimley-Horn. Ziegler Capital Markets served as bond underwriter for the bond transaction.

The project is scheduled for completion first quarter 2018; financing was completed through the sale of series 2015 bonds.
