CHICAGO—With a set of new Chicago office towers getting ready to open for business starting in 2016, tenants considering a move to modern space now have more options. And Morton Salt, Inc. has just become the latest to sign a lease agreement for space at Hines' new River Point tower currently under construction at 444 W. Lake St. in the West Loop. The company plans to relocate its Chicago headquarters office from its current location at 123 N. Wacker Dr. to River Point in December 2016.
In March, after River Point scored its first global headquarters, Hines senior managing director Greg Van Schaack told GlobeSt.com that the 52-story, 1.05 million square-foot building was 55% leased. Furthermore, tenants looking to occupy a full floor or two floors were starting to ramp up their decision-making process “so we expect to have more things to announce in the coming weeks and months.” Other major tenants include the law firms DLA Piper and McDermott, Will & Emery.
As part of its 16-year lease agreement with River Point, Morton Salt will lease two floors with a total of 52,600 square feet of space. The company will consolidate the 300 employees from its headquarters with 50 customer service employees currently based in suburban Oak Brook.
Morton officials say moving to a state-of-the art office tower will help further its effort to transform their corporate culture. Furthermore, the move will build on several recent company milestones, including a brand refresh and the 100th birthday of its iconic Morton Salt Girl.
"This is an exciting time in our history because the new headquarters location will truly reflect the Morton Salt of the future," says chief executive officer Christian Herrmann. "Our new headquarters space will be modern, open and high-tech, which we believe will ignite a more energized, innovative and collaborative workplace environment that our employees desire and deserve."
