ORLANDO—Old Town USA, one of Kissimmee's most popular travel and lifestyle destinations, is getting a massive makeover. The early stage of a $10 million refurbishment project just got underway.
Built in 1986, the property is known for its weekly themed classic car cruises. Old Town recently celebrated its 25th anniversary of the Saturday Nite Cruise, featuring over 480 classic cars, street performers and more than 7,000 people in attendance. Owners are renovating parking lots, building facades, landscaping, restrooms, marketing programs, retail offerings and more.
“We are in the process of returning the property to its former glory and splendor,” says Brett Tollman, CEO of The Travel Corporation, the new owner of Old Town. “Old Town has a nostalgic appeal, creating many special memories for visitors over the last 30 years and we are committed to enhancing that experience for many years to come.”
Old Town is located in Kissimmee, FL at 5770 West Irlo Bronson Highway on Highway 192. Old Town is next door to Fun Spot Kissimmee, one mile from Celebration and five miles east of the main gate of Walt Disney World.
Currently, the buildings are being painted the original colors. The existing parking lots have been repaved, restrooms have been remodeled, and landscaping has been upgraded. By fall 2015, a vacant lot next to the property will be paved to make room for another 1,000 vehicles.
“As a property that melds the worlds of tourism and retail, the improvements are being scheduled during times that are least intrusive to guests and tenants,” says General Manager Chris Spicer. “Every day reveals more progress and it's exciting for us to be a part of the emergence of a new era for Old Town and to share that with area businesses, locals and tourists.”
The next phase of the 10-acre development include a remodeled entrance, the return of the back iconic Ferris wheel with a modern-twist, themed restaurants, more new rides, an outdoor concert stage and event venue, and a farmer's market.
