MIAMIThe Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is expanding in a big way. Plans are rolling ahead for a $128 million project that will transform Terminal 4 and make it more travel-friendly for tourists and road warriors alike.

Based on a recommendation from the Broward County Aviation Department (BACD), the contract was awarded to MCM. The nine-member Broward County Commission voted unanimously to approve the award on Tuesday.

"The award of this contract is really good news for our local economy," Arnstein & Lehr attorney Keith Poliakoff, who co-chairs the firm's Government Relations Practice Group in Fort Lauderdale, tells GlobeSt.com. "The construction alone will put a lot of Floridians to work while upgrading one of Broward County's most valuable assets. Once the expansion of Terminal 4 is completed, we will be able to accommodate more flights, new stores and great restaurants. All this will generate more revenues for the airport, the county and the state and create permanent jobs."

The project includes the eastern expansion of the new Concourse G, which includes Gates G1 – G8, as well as demolition of the existing Concourse H, reconfiguration of the Security Screening Checkpoint, construction of the BCAD offices, and construction of the building shell space intended for the Federal Inspection Service. Field Inspection Service will be located between the existing facility and the proposed new G Concourse. The groundbreaking is scheduled for the first quarter of 2016.
