NEWARK, NJ—Hollister Construction Services has completed a new 127,000-square-foot freezer warehouse as part of the second phase of Newark Farmer's Market on Cornelia Street in Newark, NJ.
“We, as a company, are extremely pleased to witness Newark's continued growth and prosperity, and it is extremely satisfying to know that the projects we are involved in are bringing increased opportunity to Newark residents and people in the region,” says David Williams, project executive at Hollister.
The freezer warehouse incorporates the latest systems and equipment to meet the region's growing food production and distribution demands. It was designed to employ elements similar to those in the refrigerated distribution warehouse that Hollister completed in phase one. The new freezer warehouse offers different large-capacity storage areas ranging from 28 to 35 degrees, a meat distribution operation center, 32 loading docks, a vertical storage dock leveler and a dock commander system.
The freezer warehouse provides a safe and efficient work environment for employees, while meeting the high-demands of a fast-paced and high-volume warehouse. All equipment utilized in the warehouse is powered by hydrogen cell technology, a “green” technology.
The new freezer warehouse was built for Newark Farmers Market Urban Renewal, which will operate the facility for Wakefern Food Corp. The warehouse accommodates three tenants and allows these businesses to more than double their capacity.
In phase one of the project, Hollister built a 180,000-square-foot, temperature-controlled distribution center that delivers produce to ShopRite stores throughout the northeast.
The Hollister team on the project included Dave Williams, project executive; Jack Carroll, project manager; John Casselli, project superintendent; and Gina Costa, project coordinator. The 127,000-square-foot freezer warehouse was designed by SNS Architects & Engineers.
