LONG BEACH, CA—The Current, Long Beach's first luxury apartment development in decades, is nearing completion. Developers Ledcor Properties and AndersonPacific added a roof to the property at the "topping off" ceremony—a true milestone for the more than decade long project. Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia and Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal as well as Downtown Long Beach associates and representatives from the development companies were all in attendance for the event.
"The significance of the Topping Off Celebration was that it has been approximately 11 years in the making to get to reach the top of the Current," Pat Patterson, SVP of Ledcor Properties, tells GlobeSt.com. "Due to strong leadership, vision and a persistent desire on the part of our city partners, the ownership group and the development team, the Current as reached this noteworthy milestone after enduring design challenges, the dissolution of the City of Long Beach Redevelopment Agency and the great recession. As the first new high rise project in the city since before the great recession, and the first new luxury apartment tower on the coast in the City of Long Beach since 1966, the importance of this accomplishment is enormous."
