NEW YORK CITY—The Associated Press is relocating its headquarters operations to 170,000 square feet of space at Brookfield Place. The latest transaction brings the 40-story, 1.7-million-square-foot Downtown office tower to 100% leased.
The AP's new global headquarters, newsroom and broadcast studio space will span four floors at 200 Liberty St. The news and information service will relocate in 2017 from offices at Five Manhattan West, formerly 450 W. 33rd St. That 16-story, 1.8-million-square-foot building is located at Brookfield's Manhattan West complex.
"In moving our global headquarters to Brookfield Place, AP is returning to its original roots downtown, where our first office was located," says Gary Pruitt, president and CEO of the Associated Press.
Jerry Larkin, EVP of leasing, US office division for Brookfield Property Partners, says the AP lease deal solidifies Downtown as the media center of New York City.
The AP was advised by Mitchell Steir, Matthew Barlow and John Mambrino of Savills Studley. Larkin, David Cheikin and Justin Coulter represented Brookfield in-house in the transaction.
On Friday it was announced that a free-standing 16,750-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue Men's Store would open at 250 Vessey St. It will be the second Saks location at Brookfied Place. An 85,000-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue store will anchor the northern end of the Brookfield Place complex at 225 Liberty St. when it opens next summer.
