MANASSAS, VA—BerkleyNet, a member company of W. R. Berkley Corp., has chosen to relocate its headquarters to Innovation Park -- a move that keeps the company in Prince William County, much to local economic officials' relief. After four or so renovations of its current office, BerkleyNet is now planning to start from scratch and build a 70,000-square foot facility. It will be located within the park at 9301 Innovation Dr., and it will deliver next year.
Buchanan Partners is the developer.
Innovation Park, which is also home to the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus, has signed on close to 30 corporate and institution tenants over the years. One hope has been that Innovation Park will attract more tech employers to the area. BerkleyNet, which one official described as a "technology-based insurance provider" is seen as a positive sign. Its move to Innovation Park "will no doubt enhance the existing ecosystem of science and technology companies already located in Innovation Park," said Jeff Kaczmarek, executive director of the Prince William County Department of Economic Development, in a prepared statement.
The park is also attracting other tenants that should make work life a bit more joyful. These include new restaurants and the 2 Silos Brewing Company, which plans to convert the historic Thomasson Barn into the county's first destination brewery and beer garden. There is also the potential location of a commuter rail stop by the Virginia Railway Express.
