WASHINGTON, DC—Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton signed a prelease for a building that Skanska is developing on spec at 2112 Pennsylvania Ave., NW. The law firm is taking 114,598-square feet at the 11-story, 250,000-square foot Foggy Bottom office. Last year Skanska signed a ground lease at the site with George Washington University, but it didn't begin demolition until its announcement in October of 2015.

This lease was rumored to be pending in Q4 and, in fact, had been included in a market report about quarterly office transactions in the Washington DC area -- a report that GlobeSt.com covered. The market report was then corrected and reissued with news of the prelease omitted.  GlobeSt.com updated the story accordingly.

Cleary Gottlieb will occupy the top five floors of the building starting January 1, 2019. The law firm is currently located at 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

Brian Raher from Cushman & Wakefield represented Skanska and Moshe Sukenik and Aaron Katz from Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented Cleary Gottlieb.

GlobeSt.com requested comment from Cleary Gottlieb but did not hear back immediately.
