The new Dream Hollywood, a $110-million hotel development from Relevant Group in Hollywood is aiming to be the start of the city's next cool entertainment hub. The property pans an entire city block, and includes five restaurants and a nightclub, operated by TAO Group. Including the hotel, the developer has a total of $300 million planned for the immediate surrounding area, and plans to bring another hotel and 15 other dining options to the area to create what they call L.A.'s version of the Meatpacking District in New York. Other planned projects include in Hollywood include Thompson Hollywood, Tommie Hotel, TAO Hotel and Citizen News Building. We sat down with Grant King of the Relevant Group for an exclusive interview.
GlobeSt.com: How has the Dream Hollywood opening been a catalyst for change in the market?
Grant King: The opening of Dream Hollywood anchored our extensive revitalization of Los Angeles' famed neighborhood, an area that's been overlooked for years. Hollywood wasn't typically a place people would want to travel to, but now we've created a quality destination worth traveling to. We've brought together unrivaled partners in dining, nightlife, wellness and more to create a magnetic social hub for visitors and Angelenos alike. Dream Hollywood features five restaurant and nightlife venues operated by world-renowned TAO Group located within and adjacent to the hotel. Experiential offerings include our brand new rooftop concept The Highlight Room, as well as Beauty & Essex, TAO Asian Bistro, Avenue and Luchini Pizzeria and Bar.
The project, which occupies nearly a full city block, brought over 700 permanent jobs to the neighborhood. Ultimately, we've created a destination where guests are able to stay at an upscale hotel, enjoy a great dinner at a world-class restaurant, soak in the 360-views of the city in our stylish rooftop pool, grill and lounge, and enjoy a premier nightlife experience without ever having to get in a car or leave the block. Nothing like this currently exists in L.A. and we are excited to be the first.
GlobeSt.com: How is the market evolving to become L.A.'s meatpacking district?
King: The opening of the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District was the first catalyst in creating a neighborhood that brought in quality business and clientele. With the opening of Dream hollywood, we are already having that same effect and anticipate furthering that with our other three hotel openings.
GlobeSt.com: Why was this area of Hollywood a good place to create a district like this?
King: Other areas like West Hollywood are already built up. Hollywood was always a good place for nightlife, but now it's grown to be a place for dining, hotels, shopping, etc. The area is also centrally located to everything, from entertainment attractions, the Burbank Airport, the Metro, to the big studios etc. it really is the perfect place to create a district like this.
GlobeSt.com: How have locals responded to the new entertainment offerings?
King: It's been well received. We've been running high occupancy in the hotel and generating consistent revenue that's been higher than expected. The Dream Hollywood and its adjacent venues on the property welcome everyone, so it's been great for locals.
