WAXAHACHIE, TX—Daymark Living is a community created to help adults with learning differences and intellectual delays by offering day programming and full-time residential options. The community, the first of its kind built in North Texas, is scheduled for completion in August 2018.

The project is currently under construction, conducting site grading and building pad preparations. The first foundation will be poured this month.

The 144,853-square-foot inclusive community is dedicated to meeting a wide spectrum of needs. The specifics include 28 cottages able to house 200 residents, pools, sport courts, fitness center, clubhouses, computer labs, green space, community grills, deluxe dining hall, classrooms, transportation and licensed nurse practitioners. The community was designed to offer spacious independent two-, three- and four-bedroom living options along with many social areas to provide activities and interaction with other residents and family members who visit.

“It was our pursuit of a better environment for our own child that led to the creation of Daymark Living,” said John Poston, president of Daymark Living. “We are providing a groundbreaking new residential opportunity for adults with learning differences, intellectual delays and other special needs.”

Daymark Living is located on the corner of Cantrell Street and Interstate 35 East, a growing town of 40,000 people, with ample employment options, historic downtown and a convenient 30 minutes' drive from Dallas and Fort Worth. Dallas-based Merriman Anderson/Architects/maa has been selected as design architect and architect of record for the community.

“The Daymark Living project fills a need for families with adult children who need to transition to independent living with opportunities to learn and grow, while allowing the parents peace of mind that their children are well cared for,” said maa founder, Jerry Merriman. “Our team is honored to be part of a new destination that is paving the way in a much-needed sector for adults with special needs.”

Daymark Living has a vision to provide both an environment and a peer group to promote greater independence and a better quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental delays. Together with a team of compassionate professional, educators, developers and community staff, Daymark is addressing a real need for parents of adults with intellectual disabilities.

“We designed the facility in a manner to promote socialization between the residents with large living area in the residences, porches facing other units to bring neighbors together, outdoor group areas and amenities to bring the residents together,” Patrick Hazard, Merriman associate, project architect, tells GlobeSt.com.

maa's stamp can be found on master-planned developments, urban housing, office buildings, corporate facilities, hotels, hospitals, schools and retail projects, including interiors and signage, throughout the United States and internationally. The firm is headquartered in Dallas, with additional offices in Austin, TX and Charlotte.
