HOUSTON—The Northline community near the city's urban core, longknown for its rich history, is home to approximately 16,000people–more than 32% of which live below the federal poverty level,compared to Houston's overall poverty rate of 23%. Nearly 25% ofresidents are housing cost-burdened, spending 30% or more of incomeon housing costs.
In order to fill this void for safe and affordable housing inthat neighborhood, a new project is now under construction.Avenue, a nonprofitaffordable home developer, has expanded its development portfoliowith the addition of an affordable community, Avenue Meadows,slated to be complete before the end of the year.
