HOUSTON—McCarthy Building Companies’ Houston Division is one of the first companies to achieve recognized level craft training endorsement by C3. This program has a rigorous standard that measures a company’s craft training program against a training framework. The endorsement, offering three levels of recognition, recognized, leader and champion, is achieved through the development, implementation and evaluation of craft training connected to career paths for craft professionals.

“McCarthy earned this recognition by demonstrating its commitment to the craft workforce through the institution of a specialized craft training, which leads to a more defined career path and a sustainable workforce,” said Mike Holland, C3 board chairman and chief operating officer of MAREK.

Launched this year, C3’s program provides recognition to construction firms that have documented and implemented training programs that demonstrate corporate leadership commitment to the development of craft workers, implement craft training programs for all craft workers and establish a more sustainable workforce through craft training connected to career paths.

“A key area of focus for McCarthy is to institute a robust craft labor program. We are putting processes in place to ensure our craft labor is properly trained and OSHA certified. This allows McCarthy to provide a career path for workers as well as ensure we are doing the best job possible for our clients,” said Jim Stevenson, president of McCarthy’s Houston Division.

By achieving the recognized level for its craft training program, McCarthy, which is one of two general contractors to receive this award, is distinguished as an elite employer dedicated to providing well-trained craft professionals working for better quality results for all its clients.

“McCarthy has been involved with C3 since its inception and truly believes in its mission to create a skilled workforce which benefits all involved in the commercial construction industry,” Stevenson tells GlobeSt.com.
