Spirit Airlines Expands Corporate HQ in Miramar

The airline's latest deal involves an expansion of 26,287 square feet, which ramps up its leased space at the Miramar Park of Commerce to 97,106 square feet.

Spirit Airlines’ corporate headquarters at the Miramar Park of Commerce now totals more than 97,000 square feet.

MIRAMAR, FL—Spirit Airlines has expanded its corporate headquarters at the Miramar Park of Commerce here by more than 26,000 square feet, bringing its presence at the complex to more than 97,000 square feet.

Spirit established its corporate headquarters at the park 19 years ago with a lease of 56,194 square feet at 2800 Executive Way and expanded at the complex by another 14,625 square feet five years ago.

The airline’s latest deal involves an expansion of 26,287 square feet, which ramps up its leased space at the Miramar Park of Commerce to 97,106 square feet.

“Our expansion at the park is commensurate with Spirit’s overall growth as a company,” says Chip Sandifer of Spirit Airlines. “Our expanding aircraft fleet requires increased support to accommodate more passengers, both from a customer service and an operational perspective.”

In the last six months, Spirit has added seven new planes to its Fit Fleet, the country’s newest fleet consisting of the youngest planes.

“With this expansion, Spirit has nearly doubled in size since first leasing with us,” says VP Maridee Bell of Sunbeam Properties & Development, developer of the Miramar Park of Commerce. “Since relocating its corporate headquarters to Miramar in 1999, the park has been ideal for the airline due in part to its accessibility and central location in South Florida, which benefits employees based in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties.”

The park was represented by Bell and Lauren Pace of Sunbeam Properties & Development in the transaction. Spirit Airlines was represented by Rod Loschiavo and David Matthews of JLL. The carrier employs approximately 1,000 team members at the Miramar Park of Commerce.

The Miramar Park of Commerce is the largest locally owned and managed business park in South Florida, with more than 5 million square feet of office/service, laboratory, pharmacy, light manufacturing and distribution space. The park is home to more than 10,000 employees from more than 180 national and international companies including GE, Siemens, Tommy Hilfiger, Neiman Marcus, Humana, Quest Diagnostics, Toyota, Rolls Royce Commercial Marine, Stanley Black & Decker, Pepperidge Farm and Nissan.

Last month, Spirit Airlines announced that starting Oct. 4, 2018, it will begin offering international service from Orlando International Airport to 11 new destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as three more domestic routes rolling out through the fall.  The announcement marked one of the largest expansions in the airline’s history and includes service to the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The expansion announcement on June 14 came just days after the airline reported it would add new routes from Orlando to Asheville and Greensboro, NC, as well as Myrtle Beach, SC. When the expanded routes are in place, Spirit will provide the Orlando region with nonstop service to and from 38 destinations, with up to 49 daily flights across the U.S., the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Spirit Airlines is the eighth largest commercial airline in North America, conducting flights among 67 airports in 15 countries. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport is its largest and most active airport with 54 destinations accessible via 65 daily flights.
