ATHENS, GA—The Shopping Center Group says leasing is completed at Georgia Heights, a mixed-use development in Athens, GA, home to University of Georgia, the state’s oldest higher education institution, with the addition of a dining and brewhouse concept expected to open early next year.

“With this property situated in the heart of the state’s largest college town, space at Georgia Heights will always be in demand,” says Harry Croxton, senior leasing associate, The Shopping Center Group.  Croxton, along with Amy Kennedy, senior leasing associate, represented the landlord, Memphis, TN-based EdR Collegiate Housing, one of America’s largest owners, developers and managers of collegiate housing.

Last month, Blasted Barley Beer Company signed a 10-year lease for 5,000 square feet at the northeast corner of the development.  The Phoenix, AZ-based restaurant and brewery concept plans to offer more than 30 craft beer varieties on tap including its own signature suds along with superior, chef-crafted bar food.  Construction is currently underway.

Georgia Heights features 317 one-, two- and four-bedroom rental homes on four levels above 40,000 square feet of retail at street level.  Other tenants include:  CVS, J.Crew, The Athlete’s Foot, SunTrust Bank, Dress Up, D.P. Dough, Cinnaholic, European Wax and Treehouse Interiors.  The development encompasses a city block between Broad Street at the main entrance to the University of Georgia and Clayton Street, home to the iconic Georgia Theatre.  Currently all tenants are open except for Blasted Barley, expected to open by early 2019.

“We were able to be extremely selective about who would occupy this prime space in downtown Athens,” says Croxton.

With accessibility from every corner of Athens including in-town neighborhoods, suburban communities and the rest of Oconee County, nearly 112,000 people in more than 42,000 households reside within in a five-mile radius of Georgia Heights.  The daytime population in the area is more than 71,000.
