NEW YORK CITY—Shop Fair Supermarkets is opening a grocery store in West Harlem. The grocery franchise signed a lease with the owner Jem Realty to rent 20,000 square feet at 2108 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

The building that was constructed in 1903 also currently houses the Alhambra Ballroom that is on the fifth and sixth floors. The Alhambra has the address 2116 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

Shop Fair already operates three supermarkets in East Harlem. This store, situated on the southwest corner of W. 126th St., will be on one of West Harlem’s busiest shopping corridors. The asking rent is $100 per square foot.

The supermarket, scheduled to open in early 2019, will have 10,000 square feet on the ground floor, as well as 10,000 square feet on the lower level.

Winick Realty Group’s Yoel Gorjian negotiated the 15-year lease for Shop Fair, while landlord Jem Realty was represented in-house by Joseph Jemal.

Gorjian says, “They [Shop Fair] have been part of the East Harlem community for 10 years and they are proud to be expanding into West Harlem, allowing them to be the local providers for this vibrant community that has been in need of a quality supermarket.”

Jem Realty bought the building in February 2014 from Mitchell Enterprises for $21.5 million, according to Real Capital Analytics.
