SILVER SPRING, MD–Bethesda, MD-based Washington Property Co. has topped out its Solaire 8250 Georgia Ave. apartment, a 470,000-square foot, $100 million building that has 338 units and is located two blocks from the Silver Spring Metro. It is WPC’s fourth Solaire-branded apartment community and the company’s second in Silver Spring’s evolving Ripley District.

When the Solaire 8250 Georgia Ave. delivers in spring of 2019, WPC’s four Solaire communities will total over 1,000 units. Solaire-Metro, which is located two blocks from Solaire 8250 Georgia Ave., opened in 2012; Solaire Wheaton delivered in 2014; and Solaire Bethesda delivered in late 2016.

Lendlease is the general contractor for Solaire 8250 Georgia Ave., and Design Collective of Baltimore is the architect. Streetsense of Bethesda, MD is leasing the building’s 15,000 square feet of street-level retail space, which includes room for outdoor restaurant seating.

WPC has worked with Montgomery County on the Ripley District’s transformation from former light industrial use to a transit-oriented neighborhood. Through a public-private partnership with the county, for example, WPC has developed a new building, Progress Place, that houses the nonprofit service organizations Shepherd’s Table, Interfaith Works, and Mobile Med. The district will eventually be home to up to 3,000 people with over two million square feet of mixed-use development.
