Reports are leaking from Amazon executives about late-stage talks with various cities and real estate owners for its second headquarters.

Areas that are reportedly on the short list include Northern Virginia — Crystal City to be precise, New York City and Dallas, according to the Wall Street Journal. A decision could come as early this month.

In Crystal City, Amazon has been holding detailed discussions about how quickly employees could move there and which buildings it would occupy, according to the Washington Post. Amazon is apparently so interested in the submarket that it is engaging with the dominant landlord there, JBG Smith, according to numerous accounts.

In Dallas, one telling sign that Amazon could well be locating there is the a pending $33 million sale of the former Dallas Morning News building, according to the Dallas Morning News. Developers KDC and Hoque Global’s contract to acquire the downtown property includes additional compensation if Amazon selects The News‘ former headquarters. The News site was among dozens of North Texas locations pitched to Amazon, according to the paper.

And in New York, the city is still in active talks with Amazon, “although it’s unclear how far along they are in the process,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

It added that “several of the knowledgeable people cautioned that Amazon hasn’t made a final decision” and quoted one of its sources as saying that Amazon is “anything but predictable.”
