WASHINGTON, DC–The Retail Industry Leaders Association is moving from Arlington, Va., to take 12,870 square feet in the Capitol Riverfront office development 99M, which is owned by Skanska.

The Capitol Riverfront’s rich amenity base and proximity to all things political in the Washington DC area were among the reasons for the association’s decision to move across the Anacostia River to this 234,000 square foot building.

Mark Carroll, executive vice president for Skanska’s development operations in the Greater Washington, D.C., area, said the area’s “dynamic environment” was one reason for the move. Easier access to Capitol Hill “and the ability to host our members in a vibrant, amenity rich neighborhood,” were among the reasons, echoed Sandy Kennedy, President of RILA.

RILA joins PYXERA Global and Credit Union National Association as an office tenant at 99M. Skanska has also announced retail leases for two restaurants – CIRCA and Él Bebe – along with Bluestone Lane Coffee.

Located at 99 M Street, SE on the corner of First and M Streets, SE, the 11-story 99M is steps from both Navy Yard-Ballpark Metrorail entrances and seven blocks from the US Capitol. It will include approximately 220,000 square feet of office space, with approximately 11,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space on the ground floor when it delivers. It was designed to meet the LEED Gold standard.

Lincoln Property Company represented Skanska and CBRE represented RILA in this lease.
