HOUSTON—In the last few years, more total joint and spineprocedures, along with MRIs and CT scans have moved to outpatientsettings, and moderate M&A activity within the outpatient surgery setting isimpacting the industry, according to Becker's Hospital Review.Outpatient migration has been a multi-decade trend and is a topiccovered in almost every healthcare real estate conference orindustry whitepaper. This theme remains as relevant as ever, as theshift toward outpatient off-campus settings continues unabated thisyear.
Two projects are soon to begin at Houston Methodist Hospitalthat illustrate this phenomenon. Demolition, renovation andexpansion of Houston Methodist Research Institute's imaging suiteand a build-out of a new GMP cleanroom in the institution'soutpatient center are expected to be complete in spring 2019.
