Inside Kidder Mathews Rapid L.A. Expansion

The brokerage firm opens a fourth Los Angeles office in Century City following two early office openings in August and October this year.

Brokerage firm Kidder Mathews has been rapidly expanding in the Los Angeles market. The firm is opening a fourth L.A. office in Century City, following the opening of an office in Glendale in October and an office in El Segundo in August. A team from Charles Dunn including Darrell Levonian, who will head the office, Charles DeSantis, Tanel Harunzade, Kyle Gulock, Justin Mendelson and Janet Neman will join the firm as EVPs, along with 15 other brokers.

“We have been eying this submarket for some time now and paying close attention to the local landscape,” Robert Thornburgh, partner and EVP for Greater LA at Kidder Mathews, tells GlobeSt.com. “The former Dunn Brokers are an exceptionally talented team and this was a truly unique opportunity for them and us as a company—the timing just worked out extremely well for everyone involved.”

Rather than economic or industry demand driving the firm’s rapid expansion in the L.A. market, Thornburgh says that the firm’s reputation and company culture has driven the growth. “Treating everyone with respect, fairness, and an acknowledgment their contributions matter are each critical factors that can’t be ignored,” he says. “To ensure a long-term legacy, any real estate firm must demonstrate publicly they are willing to invest in their people through long term compensation plans, technology, developing client relationships, marketing, and the list goes on. This can’t be a casual conversation, but rather must become an intertwined part of any thriving company culture. We talk about it constantly at Kidder Mathews and it shows.”

As a result, the firm has also been able to attract brokers to the platform, further encouraging the Los Angeles expansion. “We have been very fortunate to attract an amazing group of talented people up and down the coast,” explains Thornburgh. “Kidder Mathews dynamic and entrepreneurial culture—a company built by highly successful brokers for brokers has resonated loud and clear in the marketplace. Our competitive commission structure, heightened marketing capabilities, and expanded platform of supportive services have also played an influential role.”

This is not the end of Kidder Mathews L.A. growth. The firm will continue to look for opportunities in the market and continue to recruit talent. “With our organizational agility and creative leadership team, we are always looking for additional opportunities on the West Coast that match our culture, high standards and focus on integrity,” says Thornburgh.

The Century City office will be located on the 23rd floor of the South Tower of Watt Plaza.
