National developer Ryan Cos. has completed projects for healthcare clients with contract amounts worth nearly $1 billion.

Founded in 1938, Ryan Cos. is a developer, architect, builder, capital investment consultant and real estate manager that focuses on healthcare and senior living among other asset classes. It has a national footprint with nearly 1,300 employees in 16 offices and it has completed projects in 38 states.

In the healthcare space in particular, it has completed more than 175 projects with contract amounts totaling more than $967 million. It also boasts of a highly-trained team: more than 70 of its professionals have certified training from the American Society of Healthcare Engineers while several others have achieved the Certified Healthcare Constructor credential from the American Hospital Association.

It has developed a wide range of healthcare-related projects including outpatient facilities, ambulatory care centers, medical office buildings, ambulatory surgery centers, acute care hospitals, specialty facilities and hospitals, emergency departments, post-acute care facilities and senior living housing. Its list of health systems and providers with which it has worked is equally as expansive. These include Banner Health, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedtert Health & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, the Iowa Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, Mercy Medical Center, PrairieCare and Twin Cities Orthopedics.

One of the lead executives for Ryan Healthcare is Erwin Effler III, who is vice president of healthcare real estate development. His experience in the space includes strategic planning, real estate development, investment, design, construction and management. His affiliations are also extensive, including the Health Care & Life Sciences Council at the Urban Land Institute, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Connor Lewis is also a VP of healthcare real estate development. In his role, he works closely with health systems, physician groups and other healthcare providers to facilitate their growth strategies, such as acquisitions or development. His affiliations include the American Heart Association, Greater Cedar Rapids Open and the American Heart Association Go Red for Women.

Vice president of national healthcare construction Steve Stecker is respected for his detailed knowledge and hands-on experience in healthcare construction and operation. And Alena Sakalouski Johnson is the director of architecture, healthcare at the company. She is an ACHA-certified healthcare architect with experience in hospitals and ambulatory and outpatient care facilities. As director of healthcare architecture, Johnson participates in all aspects of the healthcare design process, from clinical planning and conceptual scoping to leading teams of clients, consultants and construction partners.
