Whole Foods signed office and retail leases at Mack-Cali Realty’s Harborside development on the Jersey City waterfront.

JERSEY CITY, NJ—Whole Foods has signed two lease deals totaling nearly 95,000 square feet of office and retail space at Mack-Cali Realty Corp. properties here.

The Jersey City-based REIT reported the two Jersey City waterfront lease deals with Mack-Cali in its first quarter financial results released earlier this month.

The Amazon-owned organic grocer will open a 47,542-square-foot retail location in Downtown Jersey City and signed a 47,398-square-foot office lease for its new Northeast Headquarters at Mack-Cali’s Harborside development. Whole Foods will relocate its Northeast headquarters from 930 Sylvan Ave. in Englewood Cliffs.

“We have started 2019 on solid footing, securing Whole Foods Market in both our retail and office space at our signature Harborside center as part of our Waterfront Strategy. As we look ahead, our greatest opportunity and most valuable asset is our empty space and we fully intend to extract its value as we stabilize our office holdings and lease our newly developed multifamily properties,” commented Mack-Cali Realty CEO Michael J. DeMarco on the firm’s first quarter financial results released on May 1.

Whole Foods reportedly signed the retail lease deal at Mack-Cali’s Harborside 3 and the office lease at the REIT’s Harborside 4A, according to the Real Deal. When open, the retail location will be Whole Foods first in Jersey City.
