WASHINGTON, DC—Carr Properties has broken ground on a new office project at 350 Morse St., NE. Called Signal House, it is a creative office development that Carr Properties says is the first new office development in the Union Market neighborhood, one of the District’s emerging areas. Signal House “will add to the revitalization of an area that is becoming one of the most dynamic creative and retail destinations in the city,” said Oliver Carr, CEO of Carr Properties, in a prepared statement.

Signal House will be 225,000 square feet when it is complete. The 10-story property has been designed by Gensler and is the winner of the Gensler Design Excellence Award in “Workplace: Unbuilt” Category. The building’s terracotta, metal, and glass exterior pays tribute to its historic industrial surroundings and its amenities include a demonstration kitchen, bar, recording studio, DJ booth, karaoke room and conference center. There are also 10,000 square feet of private terraces, fitness facilities, below-grade parking and 12,500 square feet of retail.

Attendees to the breaking ground ceremony also included Sarosh Olpadwala, director of Real Estate from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, executives from Avison Young, Gensler, and John Moriarty & Assoc., as well as project team members.
