NEW YORK CITY—Global private equity investment management firm Arcis Capital Partners LLC has spun-off its real estate investment business into a company called Arcis Real Estate Capital LLC. ArcisCap states the company resulted from the private equity firm’s successful growth in real estate. ArcisRE will focus solely on US real estate investment management and advisory services.

ArcisRE has appointed Moni Monem as managing partner, with Steven W. Sorensen joining him as a partner. Afzal M. Tarar, chairman and managing partner of ArcisCap, is the executive chairman of ArcisRE.

The recently formed real estate investment company recently set up an Opportunity Zone investment platform to invest in qualified development and value-add deals. Through this platform, ArcisRE’s is seeking strategic partners with developers and sponsors in the student housing, multifamily and hospitality sectors.

“We are looking to capitalize development and value-add projects within qualified Opportunity Zones and to generate long-term, risk-adjusted returns for our investors,” says Monem.

Investing in federally designated Opportunity Zones provide tax savings by the deferral or elimination of federal taxes on initial capital gains. ArcisRE cites the Economic Innovation Group figures of more than $2 trillion in unrealized gains sitting on the ledgers of investors and corporations. Thus, it underscores that the Opportunity Zone program could prove to be a windfall for both investors and low-income census tract communities.

Having been involved in Opportunity Zones since early 2018, ArcisRE notes it has built a network of capital relationships looking to invest in Opportunity Zone deals within the focus of its investment sectors.
