WMCHealth's Nearly $93M Project Gets NY State Green Light

WMCHealth’s HealthAlliance hospital will receive a significant transformation across its campus in the Hudson Valley.

KINGSTON, NY – Full project approval has been granted to HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley by the New York Department of Health to significantly expand and enhance the HealthAlliance Hospital in Ulster County. The endorsement permits HealthAlliance to transform the hospital located on Mary’s Avenue in the City of Kingston, creating a single-campus model of healthcare delivery through the $92.2 million project.

A member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), HealthAlliance plans to create an advanced community hospital that will deliver a higher level of care to the county and the surrounding Hudson Valley communities through enhanced facilities, world-class technologies and innovative programs. The healthcare system aims to provide a positive impact through quality medical treatments, an efficient staff environment and practical design features focused on patients and families.

The project will include a two-story, 79,000-square-foot adjoining expansion, as well as a 48,000-square-foot full-renovation in the existing hospital. The facility’s new 175-bed addition will include a 25,000-square-foot emergency care center, a 10-bed intensive care unit, a six-bed medical intermediate unit, a new birthing center, an ICU and new surgical wards. The remodeled areas of the hospital will include centers for infusion therapy, endoscopy and ambulatory surgery, featuring nearly all private patient rooms. The hospital will also exhibit a new lobby with areas for central registration, financial counseling, family support services, a retail pharmacy, waiting areas and a gift shop.

The existing, second location of the HealthAlliance hospital, situated on Broadway in Kingston, will be converted into a “health village” for all outpatient healthcare needs, providing preventative and primary care services in one destination.

The dual-campus project, known as Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, is projected to cost a total of $134.9 million. New York State Capital Restructuring Financing Program will cover $88.8 million in completion costs and the remaining balance will be provided by WMCHealth, HealthAlliance and a capital fundraising campaign.

The project’s construction does not currently have a start date, however, preparations are underway.
