Bike to Hope is Set to Roll in October

The annual Bike to Hope ride draws attention to the keynote dinner in November and both events benefit City of Hope, a research/treatment center for cancer, diabetes and life-threatening diseases.

Bike to Hope includes riders from all facets of commercial real estate who’ve historically raised some $840,000.

PETALUMA, CA—City of Hope, recently named the leading cancer center in the West by US News & World Report, is the cause supported by the Northern California Real Estate and Construction Council. The organization’s main event, City of Hope Spirit of Life Award dinner, is being held on November 20 and will honor Jeff Hoopes, CEO of Swinerton Construction.

The advance event, the annual Bike to Hope ride, draws attention to this keynote event in November. Both events benefit City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.

Bike to Hope includes hundreds of riders from all facets of commercial real estate. Its annual fundraising goal is $200,000 or more and since the first ride in 2012, the event has raised about $840,000 including this year’s ride, GlobeSt.com learns.

Registration for the eighth annual cycling fundraiser is up and running. The October 18 event will start and end at Penngrove Park in Petaluma. Riders are encouraged to sign up online to ensure spots. Participants will be equipped with a personalized fundraising website as well.

Bike to Hope will feature two course options catering to seasoned and casual riders alike: a metric century and a half-metric century. Both routes will take the cyclists through the back roads of Sonoma County and will culminate with celebratory brews and barbecue at Penngrove Park.

Wally Naylor, project executive at Pankow Builders and Bike to Hope chair, said the real estate industry volunteers who make up the Northern California Real Estate and Construction Council are dedicated to helping City of Hope find a cure for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

“We’re finding that Bike to Hope is filling up sooner every year, so we encourage people to make plans well ahead, especially if they want to make a weekend of it,” he said. “There’s no better networking than being out in the Sonoma countryside, and the camaraderie of friends and new acquaintances is always a highlight of the ride.”

SB Architects and Hudson Pacific Properties are among the companies that are sponsoring the anticipated sell-out event.

Bruce Wright, vice president and principal at SB Architects, said his team is proud to continue sponsoring Bike to Hope. The firm has been a supporter for two decades.

“Our philanthropic efforts have grown organically from our values,” Wright said. “Wellness shapes our architectural design approach and plays a crucial role in our personal lives at SB Architects.”

Through its continued support and participation in Bike to Hope, SB Architects hopes to increase optimism and interest in health and wellness, and in life-enhancing efforts by organizations such as City of Hope, Wright says.

“The community relationships SB Architects has forged through philanthropic efforts are extremely important, and the Bike to Hope event has inspired enthusiastic participation from members of our San Francisco and Miami offices,” Wright tells GlobeSt.com. “Alongside supporting an incredible charity, the event fits our values and passions–fitness, fun, teamwork and perseverance. We are grateful for the opportunity to put our core values into practice, demonstrating a dedication to wellness while in the good company of fellow cyclists who share a commitment to raising awareness and support for a worthy cause.”

Drew Gordon, Northern California senior vice president of Hudson Pacific Properties, said his company shares City of Hope’s commitment to innovation.

“We are deeply committed to supporting causes in our community like Bike to Hope that yield a transformative impact on the lives of others,” Gordon said. “This incredible event empowers our team to take action, as both race participants and humanitarians invested in the treatment and prevention of life-threatening diseases. We are pleased to continue our longstanding tradition in advancing City of Hope’s mission.”
