Port Cargo Volumes Down Again in August

Cargo volumes were down again in August, but activity still ranked in the top months in the port’s history.

Cargo volumes fell again in the month of August at the Port of Long Beach. According to the latest data from the port, cargo volumes were down 2.3% year-over-year with a total of 663,992 TEUs handled at the port.

Despite the decrease in activity compared to last year—which was among the most active years on record—this August ranked as the fifth busiest August in the port’s history.

This was the third consecutive month of decreases in cargo volumes at the port. As a result, Long Beach volumes after the first eight months of 2019 are 4,971,407 TEUs, 6.6% down from last year’s record pace.
