Amazon Expansion to Add 400 New Jobs in Chicago
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $4.4 billion in the State of Illinois, including building customer fulfillment and cloud infrastructure, research facilities and compensation to employees.
CHICAGO—Amazon is doubling its Tech Hub workforce in Chicago. In total, the e-commerce giant will add 400 new tech jobs to its Tech Hub operations here in Downtown Chicago.
Amazon will be adding 70,000 square feet of space at The Franklin office building in Downtown Chicago, which is owned by Tishman Speyer, in connection with the expansion.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $4.4 billion in the State of Illinois, including building customer fulfillment and cloud infrastructure, research facilities and compensation to employees. The company estimates that these direct investments in the state contributed an additional $3.3 million to Illinois’ economy (2010-2018) and generated an additional 10,000 indirect jobs on top of the company’s direct hires.

Today, (Sept. 17th) Amazon will hold a Career Day event at the Vertiport Hangar (1339 S. Wood St.) from 11:30 am to 7 pm. The Chicago event is one of six scheduled this week in Boston, Dallas, Nashville, Seattle and Arlington, VA—the site of the company’s second headquarters in North America. The Amazon Career Day events will feature businesses across Amazon, and recruiters will be on-hand to talk to candidates about corporate roles at the company’s 18 Tech Hubs, as well as within its customer fulfillment, delivery, and retail facilities. In addition to the positions available at the company, the events will include informational sessions on how to sell on Amazon, start your own delivery company becoming a Delivery Service Partner, or publish your own book.
Amazon’s Chicago Tech Hub is one of the company’s 18 North American Tech Hubs – a network of development centers in addition to Amazon’s Seattle and Arlington. Together, these hubs have more than 20,000 employees innovating for Amazon customers around the world. Chicago-based Amazon teams currently build and support products and services for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon Advertising and the company’s Transportation and Operations units.
Last week, Amazon announced its Regional Air Hub at the Fort Worth Alliance Airport will open in October. The Regional Air Hub is the first build-to-suit airport project of its kind in the Amazon Air network and was designed to support Amazon Air’s larger scale regional needs, including sortation capability and infrastructure to handle multiple flights daily. The new facility will create 300 new jobs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
