Cambria Hotels Breaks Ground on Fifth DC Location

Currently on track to break its opening record for the second-straight year, the Cambria brand has opened eight hotels this year.

WASHINGTON DC – Choice Hotels International Inc., Donohoe Development Company and Koucar Management have begun construction on the Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront.

The nine-story, 154-room upscale hotel, located at 69 Q Street SW, is situated three miles from the US Capitol, the National Mall, Smithsonian museums and other major attractions. The future hotel is located within walking distance to Nationals Park, the new Audi Field soccer stadium and the Navy Yard Metro station.

The Cambria Washington DC Capitol Riverfront will offer a ground-level restaurant, a rooftop lounge with a 3,500-square-foot terrace, contemporary guestroom fixtures, spa-style bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors, onsite dining, a 2,500-square-foot multi-function meeting space and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The space will additionally feature locally inspired interiors, utilizing design aspects from the site’s original row house to honor its past.

Expected to open in early 2021, the hotel will serve as the Cambria brand’s fifth location in the Washington DC metropolitan area; joining the hotels, College Park, Rockville, Washington DC Convention Center and Arundel Mills-BWI.

This year, Cambria has opened a total of eight hotels, representing more than 1,100 upscale rooms. By year end, up to four additional Cambria hotels are expected to open in top-tier markets across the US. The brand is currently on track to break its opening record for the second-straight year.

BBGM Architects is serving as the architect for the new DC hotel, while Donohoe Hospitality Services will manage the property. The Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront is one of four Cambria hotels currently under development with Koucar Management.

The firms jointly broke ground on the new, upscale at an event attended by local dignitaries and area business leaders. Speakers at the event included DC Councilman, Charles Allen, CEO and president of Choice Hotels International, Pat Pacious, EVP of Donohoe Development Company, Evan Weisman, co-chair of Near Southwest / Southwest Community Benefits Coordinating Council, Fredrica Kramer and president of Donohoe Hospitality Services, Thomas Penny, III.
