Amazon to Build 1 Million SF Fulfillment Center in Chicago Suburb
The facility in Channahon will employ approximately 500 new full-time workers. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant currently has a workforce of approximately 11,000 in Illinois.
CHANNAHON, IL—Amazon has announced plans to build a more than 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.

“Illinois is a great place to do business and we are excited to continue our growth and investment in the state with our new fulfillment center in Channahon,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s VP of global customer fulfillment. “Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $4 billion in the state through its local fulfillment center and cloud infrastructure, research facilities, and compensation to thousands of employees in the state.
“This significant jobs announcement is another sign that Illinois’ future is bright, and I’m excited to see Amazon build on its investment in Illinois with 500 new jobs in the south suburbs,” said Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. “Illinois is the transportation hub of the Midwest, and our workforce is among the best in the world. We welcome and celebrate this new fulfillment center and the economic growth it will create in these communities and in our state.”
The project is being developed by Venture One.
The plan for the Channahon facility comes one day after Amazon announced it will build a 650,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Nampa, ID. The facility, which will create approximately 1,000 jobs, will open in 2020.
Amazon did not release any development cost for either project.
