SIOR Fall World Conference Has In-depth Tech Agenda

The Society of Industrial and Office Realtors will host its 2019 Fall World Conference from October 17 to 19 in Portland, where nearly 1,000 commercial real estate professionals will discuss CRE’s latest trends.

Mark Duclos says SIORs can dive into solutions for issues that inhibit growth during the conference.

PORTLAND, OR—The Society of Industrial and Office Realtors will host its 2019 Fall World Conference from October 17 to 19 at the Hilton Portland. During the conference, nearly 1,000 commercial real estate professionals will meet to discuss the latest trends, opportunities and challenges facing the commercial real estate industry.

“No other CRE event offers this level of access to such a concentrated group of industry experts, eager to answer the biggest questions about what’s impacting the CRE community today and what could impact the industry tomorrow,” Mark Duclos, SIOR incoming global president and president/co-founder of Sentry Commercial Real Estate in Hartford, CT, tells GlobeSt.com. “The Fall World Conference provides access to the most knowledgeable group of CRE practitioners. SIORs from all over the world gather at these conferences to share thought leadership, strategies and best practices, and to grow their network. It’s an opportunity to connect with other SIORS, and open the door for future deals and transactions in other areas. Because many trends in CRE start with large markets and trickle down to mid- and small-market cities, it also presents the opportunity to learn about what trends are on the horizon. And of course by working with one another, SIORs can discuss challenges, frustrations and opportunities to find solutions to problems that inhibit growth.”

The conferences also allow SIORs to examine the future of the industry and discuss what factors are influencing the sectors of office and industrial commercial real estate, both positively and negatively. Specifically, how will trade wars, the economy, WeWork disruption, construction backlogs, e-commerce and other factors not fully realized impact CRE in 2020?

A few new sessions this year include:

Industrial Occupiers: A View from the Inside–Attendees will learn how labor, transportation, technology, tariffs and e-commerce affect current and future operations. This panel will feature occupiers of warehouse, distribution and production space where users will discuss their own front-line view of the challenges, trends and opportunities they are facing in current market conditions.

Smart Building Platforms–Dive into a smart building platform that integrates all systems, captures tenant patterns, and takes building environmental data and outside data to learn and grow smart. The results include cost savings, cyber security, added revenue streams and optimized building performance.

Global Cities–Challenges and Opportunities: Impact on Real Estate–Global cities are at the forefront in community enhancement towards productivity and connectivity in the world. This session will discuss key challenges and opportunities in London, New York, Shanghai and Sao Paolo, as well as trends that will impact CRE now and in the future.

Underwriting and Due Diligence of Investment CRE Deals–This session will cover established underwriting models and due diligence disciplines for investment CRE deals as well as newer underwriting/due diligence trends and practices.

Augmented Reality: Real Estate’s New Reality–Augmented Reality is adding a new dimension to CRE by allowing brokers to customize, view and experience space in ways that are both digital and holographic. It uses technology to superimpose information–sounds, images, senses or text–on familiar images. Think “Minority Report” or “Iron Man” or even the display in a car. This session will explore the technology–its application, implementation and benefits–and hear from some of the innovators who are building the tools to realize its full power.

“Of course, the SIOR Portland conference, as in all SIOR World Conferences, is about meeting people, people who share common values with similar goals,” Duclos tells GlobeSt.com. “This conference is about exchanging ideas, learning, creating new relationships and expanding ongoing friendships.”

Portland’s commercial office and industrial sectors have both posted exceptional growth since 2018. According to CoStar’s LoopNet, office prices have risen by 9.2% and industrial has increased by 18.5%.
