Amazon to Build $40M Robotics Innovation Hub in Westborough

The new facility in the MetroWest suburb of Boston, which will open in 2021, will involve more than $40 million in investment in the new site.

The new Amazon Robotics facility in Westborough will be in addition to its existing operations in North Reading, MA.

WESTBOROUGH, MA—E-commerce giant Amazon reports today that it plans to build a new state-of-the-art Amazon Robotics innovation hub that will result in the creation of 200 new tech and advanced manufacturing jobs here.

The new facility in the MetroWest suburb of Boston, which will open in 2021, will involve more than $40 million in investment in the new site. The new 350,000-square-foot facility, to be developed by Atlantic Management of Framingham, MA, will feature corporate offices, research and development labs and manufacturing space. The facility will be in addition to Amazon Robotics’ current site in North Reading, MA.

Amazon has created more than 4,000 full-time jobs in Massachusetts, and since 2011, has invested more than $3 billion in the state, including infrastructure and compensation to its employees.

“We’re excited to grow our teams in Massachusetts and take advantage of the talent and regional connectivity that MetroWest offers,” says Tye Brady, Amazon Robotics’ chief technologist. “This will be a world-class facility, where our teams can design, build, program, and ship our robots, all under the same roof. This expansion will allow us to continue to innovate quickly and improve delivery speed for customers around the world.”

Last month, Amazon broke ground on a 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center in a suburb of Pittsburgh and also announced plans to open a more than 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center in Channahon, IL.
