Domuso, the popular apartment rent-pay platform, is evolving yet again. The technology platform has launched a mobile check-pay tool that will allow apartment residents to pay rent through a mobile device, GlobeSt.com has learned exclusively. This tool not only gives residents another option, but also allows property managers to accept check payments through the system to accommodate all residents, those who want to pay online and those that want to pay by check.

“Despite the popularity of digital payments, some properties still wish to allow paper checks as a payment option for residents. Current methods for check acceptance include on-site scanning at the property leasing office and off-site scanning using a bank owned lockbox, however both of these options present challenges,” Michael Lightfoot, co-founder and COO of Domuso, tells GlobeSt.com. “Domuso’s mobile technology reduces manual touch-points for the landlord and Mobile Check Pay allows landlords to easily accept checks without becoming overwhelmed by paper in their leasing offices.”

“Mobile Check Pay offers properties a new zero touch technology alternative. Using Mobile Check Pay, residents can conveniently submit checks through their mobile device. Transaction data remains secure and is synced in real-time. Properties can easily accept checks while keeping paper out of the leasing office.”

The new feature rounds out Domuso’s payment technology services, which the company says is the future of multifamily management. “We believe the entire front-office for property management is going digital, and that embedded payments and resident banking services are a cornerstone of that solution,” says Lightfoot. “Similar to Domuso’s digital money order and point-of-sale financing, Mobile Check Pay incorporates new financial services capabilities deeper into the resident payment experience.”

Features like these are emerging today, but in the near future, Lightfoot imagines they will be standard features at all apartment communities. “Residents expect on-demand service and a seamless experience across multiple devices and platforms. Future payment technology must be highly integrated, mobile and intuitive; regardless of whether they are trying to make a rent payment, ask a question or submit an application fee,” he says.

Domuso launched the new tool in a six-month pilot program with select properties managed by AMC and Weller Management. “The response to our pilot program from both residents and property managers at AMC and Weller Management has been overwhelmingly positive—most have said how impressed they are by the ease of use of the product,” says Lightfoot. “For many years, banking apps have incorporated mobile check deposit as an alternative to visiting a local branch, so there is very little learning curve for most users to adopt this technology for rental payments.”
