WASHINGTON DC – Pebblebrook Hotel Trust has announced a $25 million renovation plan for its 191-room, Hotel Zena in Downtown Washington DC.

Initially acquiring the asset as the Donovan Hotel in 2018, the firm intends to transform the upscale hotel into the first hospitality establishment, dedicated solely to celebrating the accomplishments of women.

Situated at 1155 14th St NW in Logan Circle, Hotel Zena will serve as a cultural hub; amplifying female empowerment through art, design and relevant programing. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust aims to evoke forward-thinking perspectives in the hotel, which is set to open next spring.

Featuring a 14th-floor rooftop pool and private event space for guests, the hotel will additionally offer a lobby cocktail lounge, a robust art program and a rotating series of cultural community engagements, such as salon-style gatherings and live music, for neighborhood locals to enjoy, as well.

Serving as the project’s interior designer, Dawson Design Associates plans to cultivate an atmosphere of strength and femininity across the hotel’s public spaces and guestrooms. The team intends to tastefully honor cultural and historical icons whom have positively influenced gender equality, through design details and art installations.

Positioning the hotel within the culturally-diverse, Washington DC metro area, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust aims to leverage area’s female-majority population, while appealing to all genders, races and sexualities.

As the seventh and newest hotel in Pebblebrook Hotel Trust’s “Unofficial Z Collection,” Hotel Zena will join the curated portfolio, comprising Hotel Zelos San Francisco, Hotel Zephyr Fisherman’s Wharf, Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco, Hotel Zetta San Francisco, Hotel Zoe Fisherman’s Wharf and The Hotel Zags Portland.

Hotel Zena will be operated and managed by Viceroy Hotels Group, joining its Viceroy Urban Retreats portfolio collection.

Publicly-traded REIT, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust currently owns 56 hotels, representing 14,000 guestrooms throughout 16 markets, as the nation’s largest owner of urban and resort lifestyle hotels.
