CHICAGO—Interim executive director and CEO of the MinneapolisHousing Authority Tracey Scott has been nominated by Chicago MayorLori E. Lightfoot to serve as CEO of the Chicago HousingAuthority.

Scott has more than 25 years of experience working to expandaccess to housing for low-income across the country. She currentlyserves as the interim executive director and CEO for theMinneapolis Public Housing Authority and previously held priorsenior executive positions with the Atlanta Housing Authority.

City officials state that CHA's Acting CEO James L. Bebley isexpected to stay on as chief operating officer to the agency.

Scott became the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority's interimexecutive director/CEO in August 2019. She had been MPHA's deputyexecutive director since 2017, following a career at the AtlantaHousing Authority. The MPHA Board appointed Scott to the post on aninterim basis following the departure of Gregory Russ, while itconducts a national search for the next permanent executivedirector. Russ left the MPHA to serve as the CEO of the New YorkCity Housing Authority.

As VP of innovation and policy for the Atlanta HousingAuthority, Scott developed agency-wide supportive housingprogramming and led the administration of the Section 8 voucherprogram serving more than 10,000 families.

At the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority, Scott oversees ateam of 300 to ensure the delivery of housing programs and servicesfor more than 26,000 seniors and families. Under her leadership,the MPHA developed a new public housing community for homelessfamilies, combined with services from the county. Scott alsoinitiated MPHA's first project utilizing tax credits in a$26-million rehab of a 184-unit property under HUD's RADprogram.
