Final Days to Nominate for CRE’s Women of Influence

Chosen individuals will be recognized at our GlobeSt. Women of Influence Awards Dinner in Park City, Utah on July 23. Submit your nominations before the approaching deadline!

In an industry that has long been considered a “boys club,” the accomplishments and efforts of women in commercial real estate are being increasingly acknowledged today.

With more women entering the space and assuming leadership positions, companies are identifying the need for diversity in relation to growth. Organizations are implementing an increased number of committees dedicated to such objectives, such as internal women’s networks, gender equality hiring initiatives, diversity groups, etc. Just last year, REBNY established its first ever diversity committee in efforts to examine the lack of women and people of color in commercial real estate. In addition, IREM employed a diversity and inclusion succession initiative; offering a scholarship program and matching professionals with industry mentors.

Prominent commercial real estate firms have also employed outreach programs at various colleges and universities, in efforts to target, engage with and potentially recruit young women for prospective careers in commercial real estate. By offering opportunities through an array of development programs and internships, companies are aiming to jumpstart careers while ensuring diverse candidates. Through these recruitment initiatives, such companies are playing a large role in the integration of women in commercial real estate.

The industry is additionally experiencing an influx of female-focused developments popping-up throughout the US. With more women in executive roles, there has been an increase in commercial real estate projects, dedicated solely to the celebration of female empowerment and the accomplishments of women. Promoting professional collaboration and advancement opportunities through networking, these innovative co-working spaces and cultural hubs offer relevant amenities and programming and educational engagement to amplify women’s perspectives and accomplishments, while cultivating atmospheres of empowerment.

These actions and changes, spurred from pure determination, are impacting the male-dominated industry, greatly. Both women and men within commercial real estate are embracing diversity and positively influencing gender equality. Whether it be through supportive cultures, mentorship, recruitment or collaboration, professionals are striving to create an equal playing field for new levels of advancement.

In addition to administering the GlobeSt. ELITE Women of Influence LinkedIn group, featuring inspiring content and maintaining topical discussions among professional women, GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum aims to further acknowledge women’s accomplishments within the industry.

Since 1983, GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum has recognized a growing number of commercial real estate female professionals for their remarkable achievements. GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum intends to shine a spotlight on these influential professionals, by once again collecting nominations across a number of categories, spanning the entire Commercial Real Estate spectrum. A Special Recognition Award will additionally be presented to a male CRE professional, whom has exhibited an exceptional commitment to furthering gender equality, diversity and inclusiveness, as an ally to women.

There is no limit to the number of entrants a firm can nominate. Submitters may nominate an individual for as many categories as they deem fit.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. We accept self-nominations, as well as third-party submissions.

I was selected as a Woman of Influence last year. Can I apply again this year?

Individuals selected in recent years may submit again this year, but please include updated details that do not mirror previous accomplishments or testimonies. Having said that, keep in mind, to avoid redundancy, we do try to vary the winners that we profile from year to year. You may view 2019’s Women of Influence here.

How and when will winners be notified?

Editorial staff will send email notifications to the winners and submitters by the end of April. Due to the high volume of nominations that we receive, only those selected will be notified.

When will the issue come out?

GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum will profile the Women of Influence in the July/August 2020 issue. Selected individuals will also gain recognition on GlobeSt.com.

Is there a fee to apply?

No. Submission to this, as well as all of our editorial content, is free.

How do I increase my chances of being selected?

Be as descriptive, yet concise as possible. Sounds redundant, but it’s simple. Provide details on why you think your entry should be chosen as an Influencer, but leave out the fluff, like marketing content and self-congratulatory comments. We don’t mind reading long entries, but don’t hide the items of importance within pages of trivialities. Support your entry and statements with backup information—we love facts and figures—or additional files such as media coverage.
