CHICAGO, IL –  Commercial real estate developer, Trammel Crow Co. has closed on a 1.3 acre plot of land in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood, which will be used to build the 423,454-square-foot facility, Fulton Labs. The 16-story, life science facility is designed to offer flexibility, scalability and innovation to researchers. The company expects to break ground on the project, at 400 N. Aberdeen St., in July 2020. Comprising 12 floors of wet or dry lab space, dependent on tenants' needs, the building will feature column-free and long-span layouts, as well as two private terraces per floor, a health and wellness center and a rooftop fire lounge. All lab spaces are additionally designed to meet VC-A vibration criteria, for the ability to enable reproducible results. "We are excited to take this next step and move forward in creating a new center designed for innovation and collaboration among life science companies," said Johnny Carlson, principal of TCC's Midwest business unit. Through the project, Trammel Crow Co aims to support the demand of lab space within the region. "With Fulton Labs' advanced R&D infrastructure, flexible lab spaces, and full floor launchpad for early stage companies, we are confident that this facility will help to promote growth in the Midwest's life science industry," Grady Hamilton, managing director of TCC's Midwest business unit. CBRE is marketing the property for lease.
