Empire State Realty Joins Forces With Mayo Clinic and Delos
In an effort to prepare and protect indoor environments in the post-COVID era, New York City-based Empire State Realty Trust. Inc., has joined a collaboration that includes the Mayo Clinic and Delos.
New York City-based Empire State Realty Trust—which owns and operates the landmark Empire State Building—will join the Well Living Lab Alliance to advance a study of indoor environmental quality that will include recommending best practices in office buildings in the US and globally,
The Well Living Lab is a collaboration between the renowned Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic and Delos, a wellness real estate and technology company. The Well Living Lab Alliance is comprised of organizations that support the advancement of knowledge on how indoor environmental quality improves the health and well-being of individuals.
The announcement that Empire State Realty Trust, which was founded in 2013 and has an office and retail portfolio that covers more than 10 million rentable square feet, will be lending its know-how to the endeavor was met with enthusiasm from the players involved.
“As we begin the process of reopening our buildings in the wake of COVID-19, it is critical that we take an evidence-based approach to ensure the health and safety of occupants when we return,” said Delos Founder and CEO Paul Scialla, in prepared remarks. “With a leading organization such as Empire State Realty Trust, we are excited about the opportunity to extend the Well Living Lab’s pioneering research at the intersection of health, building and behavioral sciences and address today’s most pressing public health concern.”
The announcement said Empire State Realty Trust will use its “extensive expertise in building operations and management, along with insights on tenant engagement and perception in a post-COVID-19 environment.”
Empire State Realty Trust’s president and CEO said the partnership will help everyone meet their goals.

We are pleased to partner with the Well Living Lab initiative and contribute our learnings and leadership and examine new opportunities to remain at the forefront of indoor environmental quality.”
Malkin continued: “COVID-19 has demonstrated clearly the critical role buildings play in human health.”
