Nadel Architecture + Planning Shuffles Ownership

The L.A.-based firm has reinvented itself for long-term growth and support the demand for commercial design.

Los Angeles-based design firm Nadel Architecture + Planning has transitioned its leadership and ownership and reinvented itself during the pandemic. The new ownership structure will allow the firm to take on new projects and position itself for long-term growth. The new leadership team includes Greg Lyon, chairman of the board and principal, Patrick Winters, president for Nadel, Tina Tayag, chief financial officer, and Greg Palaski, general manager will now be at the helm of the firm.

“Nadel’s leadership change has been an ongoing transition for the company for several years now,” Lyon tells GlobeSt.com. “The finalization of this shift was actually the latest stage in a process had already been in progress, rather than an abrupt changing of the guard. The new leadership team—which consists of myself and Patrick Winters, who has been named president, Tina Tayag, chief financial officer, and Greg Palaski, general manager—are veterans with Nadel. We’ve both been with the firm since 2007 and on the board of directors since 2013.”

The ownership and leadership transition has taken place over several years, and the team is now ready to move the company into its next phase. “We have witnessed and been instrumental in the company’s evolution into L.A.’s premier architecture and design firms for the commercial real estate industry,” says Lyon. “Nadel has had a stellar reputation as a respected innovator and leader in this sector for 47 years, and we’re thrilled to continue this legacy as the firm’s next generation of leadership.”

In many ways, the timing is actually a good moment for this transition. “While the fact that this transition took place during the COVID-19 pandemic is coincidental, I also see it as very fitting. Many companies in this industry are finding themselves in a position where they must evolve to meet new market demands,” adds Lyon. “Developers, property owners, and tenants have very different needs and priorities now than they did before the crisis hit. The businesses that are able to adapt to these changes and serve their clients will survive and thrive, while those who cannot or will not evolve will be left behind.”

Already, the firm has made strategic changes to meet those new market needs and continue to evolve. “We have also recently made strategic changes to our team, adding Ryan Weller as director of retail to manage our new direct-to-retail studio of retailer services and design, as well as Anthony Sanchez as design director to oversee our retail studio, and promoting Ancelmo Perez to studio director,” says Lyon. “We are excited to bring Nadel through the pandemic with new and familiar faces at the helm as we embark on the firm’s next era.”
