Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance's goal is assisting large energy buyers to transition toward clean energy and zero-carbon energy systems.

Welltower has joined the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance. A group of large clean energy buyers, Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance was founded in March 2019 with the goal of assisting large energy buyers transition toward clean energy and zero-carbon energy systems.

Welltower is headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, and provides real estate capital to senior housing operators, post-acute care providers and health systems.

Thomas DeRosa, CEO and chairman of Welltower, said the company was “proud” to join the alliance.

“We fully endorse the Alliance’s commitment to create a resilient carbon-free energy system where every organization has an easy and cost-effective path to buying renewable energy,” DeRosa said. “Welltower is committed to doing its part to help meet that goal.”

Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance’s mission statement includes bringing more than 60 gigawatts of renewables online in the United States in the next five years. Its methods include helping energy buyers procure renewable energy via tools and resources, innovative solutions in regulations, polices and technology. Membership in the alliance is open to nonresidential energy buyers, clean energy providers and other service providers committed to a zero-carbon energy future. Major companies in the alliance include Amazon, Facebook, General Motors, The Walt Disney Company, Walmart, Shell, and Google. Currently, there are more than 200 members in the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance, whose office headquarters are in Washington D.C.

“Reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment is more critical now than ever before,” said Miranda Ballentine, CEO of Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance.

Ballentine added that the addition of Welltower will help Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance towards its goal of zero-carbon energy systems.

“Insights from experienced energy buyers, like Welltower, shared across the community will enable other REITs to take steps to successfully implement sustainability strategies that reduce emissions across the sector,” Ballentine said.
