Whole Foods Market and AMC Theatres Open at CityLine Sunnyvale

AMC Sunnyvale 12 and Whole Foods Market are now open in the CityLine Sunnyvale project, developed by STC Venture LLC, a joint venture between Sares Regis Group of Northern California and Hunter Properties.

SUNNYVALE, CA—After years of planning and construction, AMC Sunnyvale 12 and Whole Foods Market are now open in a new two-story building in the downtown CityLine Sunnyvale project. CityLine Sunnyvale is developed by STC Venture LLC, a joint venture between Sares Regis Group of Northern California and Hunter Properties.

The 52,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market is on the ground floor while the 52,000-square-foot AMC Sunnyvale 12 is on the building’s second floor. Located on the corner of Murphy and McKinley avenues, the building promises to be an anchor for the multi-phase CityLine Sunnyvale project and will help attract many additional retail and restaurant tenants to the area.

“We see both of these businesses as having a central and important place in what will be a vibrant, walkable neighborhood,” says Deke Hunter, president of Hunter Storm. “We hope that the opening of AMC Theatres in particular marks the beginning of bringing back public entertainment safely, and hope that when we get through this difficult time together, both this movie theater and adjoining Whole Foods Market will help to foster a thriving and dynamic downtown that supports a mix of strong, locally oriented businesses.”

Whole Foods Market contains Floodcraft Brewing Company, which offers craft beers on tap, cocktails and prepared food. AMC Sunnyvale 12 features a balcony overlooking Redwood Square, which will be transformed into a one-acre public plaza surrounded by retail.

The plaza, part of a greater Downtown Specific Plan and Development Agreement that was approved in August, will add to downtown Sunnyvale public open spaces, a water feature, picnic areas, play areas and seating. In addition, the CityLine Sunnyvale project will potentially include 792 residences and 653,000 square feet of office above 182,000 square feet of ground-level retail.

“These two businesses are a fantastic addition to the amenities that the Sunnyvale community already enjoys downtown,” Hunter tells GlobeSt.com. “The number of shoppers present at the Whole Foods Market opening showed that the neighborhood has been anticipating these openings for a long time, and we’re excited to watch these businesses thrive and become an integral part of the downtown Sunnyvale community in the coming years.”

The Silicon Valley retail market shows third quarter 2020 vacancy and unemployment trending up. However, rental rates and construction deliveries remain unchanged since the last quarter, according to a report by Kidder Mathews.
