Orlando Is Developing Its Digital Real Estate Twin

A holographic display and real-time interactive data will let developers explore the area more efficiently.

Looking for real estate? If Orlando is part of your search, in the near future you may be able to let your computer or phone do the walking over 800 square miles of the area.

It might sound like something you would expect out of Disneyworld, but instead this is a public and private project—the Orlando Economic Partnership—that wants to provide a virtual copy to “allow companies, local governments and nonprofits to visualize how their own plans will impact the region.”

And, clearly also let real estate investors, developers, REITs, and the like investigate the area more efficiently with less need for travel.

“For economic development, the Partnership will be able to show site selectors and CEOs available land and real estate, as well as areas of interest for different industries, infrastructure connectivity and talent availability all while saving drive time,” the organization said in a release. “Utility companies and city planners will be able to map out proposed infrastructure improvements on a holographic display, which is being developed for a dedicated marketing center in the Partnership’s new office space.”

The group has hired Unity to construct the project. The company is well-known for its eponymous 3D video gaming engine and tools, with expertise in 3D rendering, display, and creation and control of virtual worlds.

As important is the data from “multiple stakeholders,” including public and private sources. Users will use the real-time interactive data to create scenario planning for locations, taking into consideration climate change, infrastructure, and available real estate, among other information.

Site selectors, CEOs, investors, and developers can see land and real estate, location and details of infrastructure connectivity, and availability of talent. The holographic capabilities will be for utility companies and city planners who will be able to consult a holographic display under development for use in a dedicated marketing center.

“This is a project that will change the way we do business, and the way businesses immerse themselves in all Orlando has to offer,” partnership president and CEO Tim Giuliani said in prepared remarks.  “This digital twin is the culmination of our world-class modeling and simulation companies, AR/VR/XR, defense and gaming industries.” So, in addition to enabling urban planning, real estate acquisition, and business analysis, it promotes some major area industries for business development.
