Over the last year, The Necessity Retail REIT (Nasdaq:RTL) has been on a hot streak, acquiring a 79-property shopping center portfolio and embarking on a significant rebrand. We caught up with Jason Slear, Executive Vice President of Real Estate Acquisitions and Dispositions, at this year’s ICSC Las Vegas conference to discuss the company’s outlook on the retail sector and why brick-and-mortar necessity retail continues to be important for consumers in a post-pandemic omni-channel world.  We also chatted about how RTL’s open-air centers are different from other types of retail real estate, what Slear thinks will be next on the horizon for the sector in 2022 and beyond, and how leasing and asset management contribute to the company’s success.
