It would be challenging to top the migration volume that U-Haul says happened in 2021, but 2022 remained active and mostly kept the same favorite destinations as the year before.

Texas, Florida, the Carolinas, and the Southwest continue to see solid growth. Virginia and Alabama were the biggest risers among states in 2022, climbing 26 spots from their respective 2021 rankings.

The company still has areas with strong demand for one-way rentals, according to its international president, John "J.T." Taylor.
