The Tallest Building in the US Could Be in This Unlikely City

If approved, the tower would be 1,907 feet in height.

A variance was requested from Oklahoma City to increase the height for one of the towers in a development called The Boardwalk at Bricktown. If approved, the structure will be the tallest building in the US and the fifth tallest in the world, according to Matteson Capital, a real estate investment and development company, and AO, a full-service architecture firm, the two entities partnering on the project.

If the variance is approved, the development in Oklahoma City would comprise three separate towers, each standing 345 feet tall, as well as a fourth tower, called Legends Tower, that would be 1,907 feet in height.

The planned project would span approximately 5 million square feet. It would include two hotels with residential condominiums, additional condominiums, retail and restaurant space, and a workforce development center. In addition, the top floors of the tallest tower plan to feature a public observatory and a restaurant and bar, with city views for visitors to enjoy.

Finally, public spaces such as a lagoon with water features and roof-decks are part of the design, too.

“Oklahoma City is experiencing a significant period of growth and transformation, making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like the one envisioned for Bricktown,” said Scot Matteson, CEO of Matteson Capital.

Bricktown has become a key destination within Oklahoma City, according to its developers and aligns well with Oklahoma City’s path to becoming a premier center for cultural and economic activity.

“We are excited to embark upon this pivotal undertaking with a carefully assembled team of talented and experienced architects and designers from within our ranks,” said Rob Budetti, AO managing partner.

Due to the magnitude of the project, multiple parties would offer their expertise. In addition to AO and Matteson Capital, the partners would enlist help from a team of professionals, such as structural and civil engineers, an energy company, general contractors, and hotel management companies.
