Vantage Data Centers, a global firm that's known for its presence in the North American Sunbelt — has announced that it is expanding now to another state in the region. That's Nevada, where it will spend almost $3 billion on a 224 megawatt campus called NV1, in Storey County.

The site, located outside of Reno, will be situated on almost 137 acres and feature four data centers spanning a total of one million square feet. Densities will range from 360 to 720 watts per square foot.

Vantage plans to deploy sustainability across the campus, with plans to use low water usage effectiveness and earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The property will also leverage what Vantage calls "next generation GPU loads using liquid cooling," as well as traditional cooling compute loads.

The move into Nevada will mark Vantage's eighth data center in North America. The Denver-based firm has existing locations in states including California, Virginia, Ohio and Arizona.

Vantage said that NV1 represents strategic opportunities it's exploring outside of tier one areas. The company also noted it was influenced by other major tech players, including Apple, Microsoft and Google, which have all been expanding data center operations in North America. We have also seen other announce multi-billion dollar investments this year, including Dubai-based EDGNEX Data Centers by DAMAC, with its $20 billion pledge to enter the U.S. market.

“As the global race for AI dominance continues, Vantage is leading the delivery of digital infrastructure to support the innovation and applications of the world’s largest technology enterprises,” Dana Adams, president, North America at Vantage, said in a statement.

“The scale and pace at which our customers need business-critical capacity is at an all-time high. Nevada provided us a strategic opportunity to accelerate time-to-market for these customers while supporting the local economy through the creation of long-term jobs and tax revenue. The warm welcome we’ve received from the state is overwhelming, and we look forward to advancing the region’s growing digital hub together.”

Vantage said that the initial two buildings of its Nevada project are already 100 percent leased. Also, the first building is set to open during the second quarter next year.

Overall, the company expects more than 1,200 jobs to be created from both ongoing data operations at NV1 and the construction phase of the project. Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, through a partnership with Vantage, will support community engagement initiatives and workforce development in the area.
